Ralph redux -- and reduced

I find it hard to get very riled up about Ralph Nader's announcement that he will again run for president of the United States. It's clearly a move driven by ego; he can't even claim to be in pursuit of legitimacy and viability for a third party, given that he's running as an independent.

What's more, the notion that there is no difference between the Republican and Democratic parties has been proven so patently, even dangerously, false by the current administration that Nader comes off as delusional in even attempting to float it again.

He'll get a few votes, I suppose, but I honestly believe that most of those who made up his constituency in the 2000 campaign are far more motivated toward ousting the current regime than holding the Democratic Party's feet to the fire.

As one who has great respect for Nader's past accomplishments, I find it sad that he can envision no grander goal just now than a vanity run for the presidency -- this despite the urgings of many of his former supporters that he join the greater cause of defeating the Bushies.

Everyone needs a hobby, I guess; I just wish he'd considered stamp collecting. His stature is diminished by this move, I'm afraid, and I don't think he'll have much impact, when all is said and done, on the election.
