President Dubya recently accused John Kerry of flip-flopping on the issues. Well, he ought to recognize flip-flopping when he sees it, I guess:
"The state can do what they want to [regarding gay marriage]."
--President Geo. W. Bush, 2/15/00
"It's the right of the state to make that decision [on gay marriage]."
--President Geo. W. Bush, 4/21/00
"[It is] going to be up for cities and states to make those decisions [regarding gay marriage]."
--President Geo. W. Bush, 5/2/00
And, just for good measure:
"I think the fact of the matter, of course, is [same-sex marriage] is regulated by the states. I think different states are likely to come to different conclusions, and that's appropriate. I don't think there should necessarily be a federal policy in this area."
--Vice president Dick Cheney, 10/5/00
