Longtime B&Y readers probably know that, back in 2000, I published a book, a collection of humorous essays and stories, called Men My Mother Dated and Other Mostly True Tales.
It's not bad, I promise. Bob Costas wrote the foreword. Annie Leibovitz took my author photo. And even the New York Times had some kind words to say about it (a few unkind ones, too, but those are long forgotten).
My humble little hardback was even a finalist for the 2001 Thurber Prize for American Humor. It lost out in what could only be characterized as a huge upset to a little-known work by some kid no one had ever heard of -- Me Talk Pretty One Day by ... what was his name again? Oh, yeah -- David Sedaris.
I wonder what ever happened to him?
Anyway, the book's out of print now, and you can find it dirt cheap on any number of used book websites. But let's face it, if you buy it there, you could end up with a stained copy. And try as you might to enjoy my witty observations, you'll be distracted by pondering the unsettling origins of said stains.
So I have a better idea: Buy a copy from me. Why? Because I'll donate every penny you spend to the Red Cross to go toward their relief work along the Gulf Coast.
Now, because it's for a good cause, I'm upping the price a little, from twenty bucks to a minimum of $25 (higher amounts gratefully accepted), but shipping is included at my expense (media mail -- hey, it's coming out of my pocket!). And yes, you can find the book for much less, but none of that money would go toward hurricane relief, and don't forget those stains of unknown origin.
I'll even sign the book, inscribing it to the humor lover of your choice. Or not, as you prefer.
If you'd like to buy a book, drop me a line at bleveridge at gmail dot com (I'm spelling it out to confound the spammers -- as if), and we'll make arrangements.
Quantities are limited, and people are suffering, so act now!
