All fear, all the time

"Do we want security ... or do we want to get all up in a twit about our civil-libertarian rights? Choose. I don’t get it." -- Trent Lott, May 11, 2006

Lott inadvertently speaks the truth in admitting he doesn't get it. Because in the minds of the Republicans, it's one or the other -- we have to choose between security or civil liberties. Surely we can't have both, can we?

What utter nonsense. What complete wusses these politicans and those who support them have become.

Well, how about it, Mr. and Mrs. Bush Voter? Are you that scared? So scared that you're okay with the idea that your party -- the party that has long claimed to represent limited, nonintrusive government -- has fully switched gears into Big Brother mode?

Here's another salient quote that's worth remembering:

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin, November 11, 1755

Ol' Ben must surely be spinning in his grave over this bunch of fearmongering fascists.
