My gal Flo was seen on The Martha Stewart Show last week, in a segment on artisanal coffee and the people who devote their careers to it (Flo's the head barista at Joe: The Art of Coffee, a small local chain of high-end coffee joints, so she definitely knows her stuff).
Flo's colleague and pal Amanda got most of the on-air time (curse you, Amanda!), but you can see Flo in action a few times during the videotaped segment that precedes Amanda's in-studio appearance.
To view the video, go here and click on the Top Videos link that reads, "Espresso 101."
When, a minute or so into the videotaped segment, you hear Amanda's voice saying, "Instead of treating it as a caffeinated substance that wakes you up in the morning...," be on the lookout because as Amanda appears on-screen, Flo's there on her right (our left) in a blue sweater.
And later in the segment, you'll see Flo serving a customer and hear her dulcet voice intoning, "Espresso to stay?", and if you'll hang in a bit longer, you'll also see her plying her craft in creating art atop a lovely latte, a cappuccino, and a macchiato.
To then view Amanda's in-studio appearance with Martha, follow the link that reads, "Coffee Art."
In remembrance of the man we honor today:
"A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death." -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., April 4, 1967
Oh, how we could use Dr. King's wisdom and courage today.
Last night, Flo and I dined just a few feet away from James Iha of the Smashing Pumpkins at a little spot in NoLita called Cafe Colonial. (Flo did the actual spotting; I noted his shock of white-blond hair, but Flo's the one who recognized him.)
